Are There Any One Hour Photo Labs That Do Not Auto Correct The Photos?
I have a picture of a Clydesdale that I want to donate to a silent auction. I sent it to Walmart, since the lab near me has been pretty good in the past. Recently, I have been sending some digital photos there and they come back looking awful, even though they looked great on my computer. I think they are auto correcting the photos, which ruins a lot of the effects on some of them. The picture of the horse that I sent them has a purple/reddish sky in the background, but when I got it back, it was almost white and the red was a light pink. The horse was way too dark.
Are there any places that I can send it to? I have to use a one hour photo lab because I need it by Friday. If I can't find one, I'll just try printing it out at home.

US $1.00

Firstly, very nice photo.
Secondly, there are no chain stores that’ll print without processing — especially one-hour services. CVS, Walgreen’s, Walmart, Target, Duane Reade, etc. aren’t operated by specialists most of the time; the process is simplified to reduce errors, produce consistently adequate results (for vacation photos, snapshots and the like), and to reduce the amount of specialization necessary to operate a photo lab. On top of that, most of the labs aren’t maintained like they should. Your best bet for a one-hour service would be to visit a local independent photo shop and to personally request that no correction be applied to your order. Keep in mind that you’d also be waiving color correction which is important if your monitor isn’t calibrated for the color space used by the output machine.
If time isn’t a problem you can order from online specialists for better results. I’ve had great success with AdoramaPix. As you probably know, Adorama is a reputable photo and video equipment retailer in the heart of NYC; it has recently started its own photo lab department. You can specify during the order process whether you want your photos to be examined and corrected by a lab professional (not by some incompetent college student working part time to pay off his or her loan) or if you’d like them to be left untouched (they provide ICC profiles for the various paper types offered at the shop so you can correct the color yourself if you wish).http://www.adoramapix.com/http://www.adoramapix.com/Support.aspx?S…
I’m almost certain that Snapfish would apply its own “fixes.” Any service that targets the general public will almost certainly apply contrast, exposure, color, and sharpness fixes to make any ordinary photo produced pop and look halfway decent.
I would try http://snapfish.com
Part of the problem may be that images are different printed than they are viewed with transmitted light. Using a consumer lab, it may be difficult to hold the color in the sky while maintaining detail in the horse.. (Wonderful image, BTW!) If you usually get good results from WallyWorld, then I would take the print back to them, explain the problem, and ask for a reprint. Ask for the lab manager (or the best tech, if you have a favorite.) If they have any customer service skill at all, they will at least attempt to produce an acceptable print for you. If that fails, try Costco. Generally they have good product. Or you can bring it to me
ritz photos (i think that’s how you spell it) but they are very good at printing exactly what you send them. If you have issues with what they printed, tell them it’s not what you paid for (i did it once) they actually had to clean the machine. They tend to be a little bit more expensive than walmart, but the quality is so much better. Good lucck :]
alsoo make sure the settings on your computer are set right. I have the brightnes down on the computer becuase it hurts my eyes and when i print photos i realize it’s nto what i wanted.
I hate dropping my pics off at labs and stuff they come very crappy i just use the kodak machine that they have at jewel and other stores you just take your disc or card and they print the image out that very instant and it takes like 1 minute for one picture to print and they only charge like 30 cents
give the kodak machines a try all you do is insert you storage device in the plugs or disk and then you pick your size and the images you want and they print.
