Field binoculars?

It's the field of view of the eyepiece divided by the power of the binoculars. When you look into the eyepiece, the angle of view depends on the binocs, but usually 30 to 60 degrees from top to bottom. For a do-it-yourselfer, look at a wall from a fixed distance, say 10 feet. Measure the width of your scene, say from the left side of a painting to the right side, then determine the angle ( 2 x arctan( (width/2)/distance )) and divide it by the power to get the true field of view.
Of course, you might not be able to focus at that distance, but you can use one eye to look through the eyepiece and the other eye to superimpose the field of view on the wall.
