How Do I Find A Canadian Government Auction?
I'm looking for ones in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and east of there (Oshawa-to-Kingston). Trying to find ones where they have things like autos, real estate, jewelry electronics and boats. Thanks.

You can find a lot of auctions like that by using one those government auction listing sites. The only thing is they require you to become a member to look at their listings.

“As we’ve made our institutions more meritocratic,” David Brooks muses, “their public standing has plummeted. We’ve increased the diversity and talent level of people at the top of society, yet trust in elites has never been lower.” Brooks offers a few sociological hypotheses to explain this trend — maybe our definition of talent is too narrow or maybe our elites have become more insulated or maybe our government is attempting too many large projects — but none of them really work. Government, for instance, was far more ambitious 50 years ago than it is today. Barack Obama’s health-care reform plan is peanuts compared with what Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson or Harry Truman proposed. Oddly for Brooks, however, this column operates entirely outside the realm of human agency. After all, doctors and the military are very trusted, and we’ve turned massive amounts of responsibility over to new elites, like those out of Silicon Valley, with nary a peep. So…

Are there any innovative, well-known, successful business leaders in your area? Do your board members have any close contacts with these people?
If so, ask them to donate an evening of their time to the highest bidder. The auction item could be 3 hours of this person's time to discuss business ideas, leadership strategies, networking, etc. over a catered dinner. The dinner can be one on one, or for a small party (maybe 5 people).
People will definitely bid for the opportunity to spend some "quality time" with a local business leader.
