I would have to have to advise against a older Trans Am as a starting car. If you are planning on traveling with a car this is not the set of wheels you are looking for , they did not really get great gas mileage and the youngest ones are now creeping on 20 years old. However they are fun , pontiac put a lot of different motors in these v6 and v8's .My best friend had one in high school and it had 15 years on it and 100K plus miles, It wasnt really that reliable but it was fun and cool. I wouldnt suggest this car as a first car, I would say get a sedan with a 4cyl if cash is the issue. But if your dead set on it go for a 91-92 with the L98 V8, not only is it a corvette motor but its the last years they made them and by then they had worked out all of the bugs that they could tweak out.Good luck
